RF Microneedling

At Sasaki Advanced Aesthetic Medical Center, we are pleased to offer INTRAcel fractional radio frequency (RF) microneedling for our Los Angeles and Pasadena patients. This state-of-the-art RF therapy penetrates deep into the skin to revive and rejuvenate the natural production of new collagen and elastin for smoother, firmer skin. This technique of using radio frequency energy enhances tissue lifting and tightening. In addition, the created micro-channels lend an opportunity for deeper penetration of active agents. Our director, Dr. Gordon Sasaki, performed a published study on the safety and efficacy of microneedling and is a consultant for the INTRAcel device (Jeisys Medical, Inc.).

How Does It Work?

Traditional microneedling rejuvenates the skin by creating thousands of tiny injuries, called micro-channels, to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. The INTRAcel device is an FDA-cleared device that enhances microneedling results by emitting RF energy through the microneedles for increased collagen remodeling and tissue tightening without harming the surface of the skin. The body responds by increasing the production of collagen and elastin, and the skin gradually becomes smoother, firmer, and more elastic.

The INTRAcel device controls the depth and intensity of needle penetration and energy released for optimal safety and results.

Conditions Treated

RF microneedling treatments are safe for all skin types and may be used on the face, neck, décolletage, arms, legs, and abdomen to correct a variety of concerns, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Lax, crepey skin
  • Enlarged pores
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne scars

We offer other advanced skin rejuvenation options, such as the Fraxel® laser, IPL PhotoFacial®, Ultherapy®, and laser skin resurfacing & tattoo removal with PicoSure, that may be used instead of, or as a complement to, RF microneedling.

What to Expect

At the Sasaki Medical Advanced Aesthetic Medical Center, RF microneedling is performed as an in-office treatment in our Nurse Injection and Device Center. We begin by applying a topical anesthetic gel to the skin and allowing it to take effect for about 1 hour. After cleansing the skin with an antiseptic solution, the procedure mode on the INTRAcel microneedling device is selected for either tissue lifting or scar softening. Dr. Sasaki recommends that platelet-rich plasma (PRP), obtained from your blood, be massaged into the treated skin during the procedure for optimal results. Treatment of the entire face, neck, and décolletage areas takes about 1 hour and is typically very comfortable.

Recovery & Results

Initially, treated skin may feel warm, similar to a slight sunburn. Mild redness and swelling are common for approximately 2 to 3 days, and improvements develop gradually over the following 3 to 6 months. Medical skincare products, including serum growth factors, may be used to maintain and improve your RF microneedling treatment results.

Secretomes

All cells normally secrete vesicles that contain their molecular messengers (growth factors, cytokines, RNAs) which influence the behavior of adjacent cells by regulating cellular proliferation, blood flow, immunomodulation, and inflammatory processes. In recent years, increasing attention has focused on the roles of extracellular vesicles in promoting normal physiological balance and regenerative repair. Secretomes are derived from stem cells in bone marrow, adipose tissue, placental tissue, and umbilical cord jelly, under strict regulatory guidelines and full compliancy of the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA).

In 2022, Dr. Sasaki published one of the first Investigational Review Board studies on the application of secretomes, as an alternative method, for hair loss. Moreover, the innovative topical application of these cell-free bioactive molecules are under study to alter the effects of microdermabrasion, microneedling, and laser-resurfacing when they are used to improve the signs of aging skin.

As President-elect of the Aesthetic Stem Cell Society, Dr. Sasaki is a recognized leader in stem cell research of adipose regenerative cells, platelet-rich plasma, and secretomes. Dr. Sasaki has published over 15 manuscripts on these ground-breaking applications based on Investigational Research Board oversight for patient safety and efficacy.
