Cool Sculpting Q & A

What is CoolSculpting®?

CoolSculpting is a noninvasive solution to removing small areas of stubborn fat when diet and exercise aren't working.

CoolSculpting reduces fat using a process called Cryolipolysis™, which is the principle that fat cells are naturally more sensitive to cold than other types of cells. Applying low temperatures to your outer skin causes fat cells just beneath the surface to die, while the skin and other tissues remain undamaged.

Over time, your body's natural cleansing processes flush the damaged fat cells away, and the treated areas become slimmer. It's important to be aware that CoolSculpting doesn't tighten your skin and isn't a solution for obesity.

Am I a good candidate for CoolSculpting?

You could be a suitable candidate for CoolSculpting if you're at or near your ideal weight, have areas of unwanted fat, and would prefer a nonsurgical option for fat reduction. You also need to be willing to wait for a gradual change in the treated areas rather than wanting an instant transformation.

CoolSculpting is suitable for treating defined areas of fat on your:

  • Chin
  • Belly
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Upper back

Dr. Sasaki also uses KYBELLA® — another nonsurgical fat reduction option specifically for double chins.

What happens at my CoolSculpting treatment session?

Dr. Sasaki and his team of registered nurses perform CoolSculpting treatments in their Nurse Injection and Device Center.

They select the appropriate applicator to match the size of the unwanted fat pocket. Once the applicator is in position, gentle suction draws the tissue in the target area for cooling.

The procedure might take one to two hours to complete, depending on the size and location of the areas of fat. Dr. Sasaki and his team can use two CoolSculpting machines (known as DualSculpting) to treat two areas at once (for example, both outer thighs) and cut treatment times in half.

During the treatment, you're free to read, use your phone or tablet, or simply relax. Once the CoolSculpting treatment is complete, you can have optional ZWave treatments to optimize fat reduction. ZWave is a quick, gentle treatment that provides an advanced alternative to manual massage to enhance the breakdown of treated fat cells.

What happens after my CoolSculpting treatment?

Patient experiences vary, but following CoolSculpting treatment, you might experience temporary bruising, swelling, or tenderness. There’s no downtime required after CoolSculpting treatment.

It takes approximately three months to see the final results. While many patients need only a single CoolSculpting treatment, larger areas may require additional treatments to achieve the results you desire.

While many practices in Southern California offer CoolSculpting, the Sasaki Advanced Aesthetic Medical Center is exceptionally qualified to perform your CoolSculpting treatment. They are a CoolSculpting Certified Practice and a top-performing Crystal Practice.

Since 2006, Dr. Sasaki has been an international educator, investigator, and consultant for CoolSculpting technology. He published a clinical study of its safety and effectiveness and was the first plastic surgeon in Los Angeles to use CoolSculpting.
