CoolSculpting®

In Pasadena, we see many women and men who would like to reduce bulges and pockets of excess fat without surgery. In the past, liposuction was the only way to address stubborn, diet- and exercise-resistant fat. Today, CoolSculpting has become popular for people from Los Angeles, Glendale, Arcadia, and other nearby cities who want to avoid incisions, anesthesia, and taking time out for recovery. Visit the Sasaki Advanced Aesthetic Medical Center to find out if this FDA-cleared treatment could help you slim down the areas that you can’t reduce on your own.

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

CoolSculpting reduces fat through a process called cryolipolysis that is based on the principle that fat cells are more sensitive to cold than other types of cells are. When low temperatures are applied to the outer skin, fat cells just beneath the surface die, and the skin and other tissues remain undamaged. Over time, the damaged fat cells are flushed away by the body’s natural cleansing processes, and treated areas become slimmer.

Candidates for CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting treatments may be performed on most well-defined areas of fat, including the chin, belly, hips, thighs, and upper back. While Dr. Sasaki offers other body contouring options, such as liposuction, candidates for CoolSculpting meet the following criteria:

  • Are at or near an ideal weight
  • Have areas of unwanted fat
  • Prefer a nonsurgical option for fat reduction
  • Are willing to wait for gradual reduction of treated areas

Another nonsurgical fat reduction option is KYBELLA® for double chins.

Meet Dr. Sasaki

What to Expect

Dr. Sasaki and his registered nurses perform CoolSculpting treatments in our Nurse Injection and Device Center. The appropriate applicator is selected to match the size of the unwanted bulge. Once the applicator is in place, gentle suction draws the targeted area in and the cooling process begins. The procedure may take 1 to 2 hours to complete, depending on the size and location of the area of fat. If desired, we can use 2 CoolSculpting machines, sometimes called DualSculpting, to treat 2 areas at once (such as both outer thighs) and cut treatment times in half. During the treatment, patients are free to read, use their phone or tablet, or simply relax.

Once the CoolSculpting treatment is complete, optional Z-Wave treatments may be used to optimize fat reduction. These quick, gentle treatments provide an advanced alternative to manual massage to enhance the breakdown of treated fat cells.

What Happens After CoolSculpting?

Following the treatment, some patients experience temporary swelling, bruising or tenderness; however, patient experiences vary. There is no downtime required after a CoolSculpting treatment.

How Long Does It Take for CoolSculpting to Work?

Reduction of treated areas is typically reached approximately 3 months after this comfortable procedure. It’s important to understand that CoolSculpting does not tighten the skin and is not a solution for obesity.

How Many CoolSculpting Treatments Are Needed?

While many patients need only a single treatment, larger areas may require additional CoolSculpting treatments to achieve the desired results.
