How Lasers Are Changing the Skin Care Game

How Lasers Are Changing the Skin Care Game

Gordon Sasaki, MD, FACS, is a triple board-certified plastic surgeon who is well-known nationally and globally as a skilled clinician, innovator, and educator.

Read why Dr. Sasaki and his team at Sasaki Advanced Aesthetic Medical Center in Pasadena, California, recommend laser treatments as a safe and highly effective solution for nonsurgical skin repair and rejuvenation.

Can laser treatments replace a facelift?

Short answer – no. The treatments tackle different aspects of cosmetic skin repair. For example, a facelift reshapes the appearance of your face by reducing sagging jowls, sharpening the jawline, and restoring youthful contours to the cheeks.

Laser resurfacing treatments enhance the appearance of your skin at the cellular level by boosting the production of collagen, elastin, and other natural substances that your body uses to repair and rebuild skin tissue. This action results in improved skin texture, tone, and elasticity.

Laser skin resurfacing can’t replace surgery's skin-tightening effects. Still, it can significantly reduce laxity while addressing surface irregularities related to aging or sun-damaged skin that may begin as early as your mid-20s.

Is laser skin resurfacing safe?

As with any other cosmetic procedure, the safety and efficacy of laser skin resurfacing relies heavily on the training and expertise of your provider.

Dr. Sasaki completes a thorough skin evaluation and review of your medical history before recommending any cosmetic procedure. You can also rely on Dr. Sasaki’s team of expertly trained nurses to ensure your experience provides the expected results.

What conditions does laser skin resurfacing address?

Dr. Sasaki and his team at Advanced Sasaki Aesthetics use the PicoSure® system by Cynosure to address the following:

PicoSure uses advanced fractional (non-ablative) laser technology to target underlying layers of damaged skin without harming or removing the surface layer. Dr. Sasaki generally recommends three to five treatment sessions for optimal results.

What about unwanted tattoo removal?

The PicoSure system includes PressureWave™ technology, which effectively breaks up tattoo ink with less thermal damage than other laser systems. Dr. Sasaki can safely target all ink colors by adjusting the laser's wavelengths. Depending on the size and color of the tattoo, you may require 4-15 treatments spaced six to eight weeks apart.

What can I expect after laser skin resurfacing?

After laser skin resurfacing or laser tattoo removal, you may experience mild redness and irritation, much like a mild sunburn. These effects fade quickly, and you’ll notice smoother, softer skin almost immediately. You can expect continued skin improvement over several weeks to months as your body continues its natural skin repair and rebuilding process.

What other treatments are available for skin rejuvenation or tightening?

Sasaki Advanced Aesthetics Medical Center offers a full range of surgical and nonsurgical treatments and skincare regimens to address your cosmetic concerns.

For instance, Ultherapy® is a noninvasive skin tightening treatment that uses ultrasound technology to deliver controlled heat to specific areas. This process stimulates natural collagen production at the deepest levels, successfully tightening skin at the surface and subdermal layers.

Dr. Sasaki was also one of the first specialists asked to evaluate the anti-aging effects of microneedling procedures. In 2008, he researched the efficacy and safety of boosting its effectiveness by combining microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy.

This combined procedure has since become a popular skin-tightening and rejuvenation treatment that effectively reduces the appearance of scars, acne depressions, and stretch marks.
